The United Nations General Marketplace (UNGM) web application was developed by the United Nations agency UNOPS to facilitate the tendering and procurement process for all UN agencies.
Chris Thwaites worked on the application for a total of 18 months, overseeing the full development life-cycle from planning to deployment.
The project was managed under the agile scrum methodology, and 9 months into the development cycle the lead developer left the project, and Chris was asked to take over the lead developer / scrum-master role, which he filled for the next 9 months (including one renewal).
The technologies involved included MS Entity Framework, Selenium, MOQ, MS Unit Testing Framework, WCF, SQL Server 2012, Web Services and Windows Services, all hosted under IIS.
During his time with UNOPS, Chris underwent 2 yearly appraisals, both times receiving the highest possible award of "Exceeds expectations", a category awarded to less than 10% of United Nations staff.
