It's not often that a developer can say that their work was literally a matter of life and death. However, the eCPMS (electronic Clozaril Patient Monitoring System) for Novartis is just that.
Clozaril is a drug of last resort, prescribed for treatment-resistant-schizophrenia. Although it is shown to succesfully treat patients who have not responded to other anti-psychotic tretments, it can have potentially lethal side-effects.
These side-effects lead to the requirement that patients taking the drug have regular blood tests and monitoring for various blood counts throughout the treatment. The eCPMS application developed and maintained by BlueBay Computing is an online application for the recording and reporting of those blood counts.
Historical data is periodically mined, looking for patterns in order to predict those patients who may be in imminent danger of low blood counts. These patients can then be contacted and/or observed for preventative care before their situation deteriorates.
The system is a fully audited COM+ classic ASP intranet site running off a replicated SQL Server database. Audit data is captured and transformed into a mini-star schema Data Warehouse for later examination using SAP Business Objects.
The eCPMS is a validated system, deployed throughout the NHS allowing point-of-care haematology results to be processed for dispensing decisions within 2 minutes.
